Il’eigha finds herself pursued by scrappers and is rescued by a young girl, DARE. DARE then takes her to meet a group of scientists who reveal the disturbing truth about the alien parasite on her back. On a world where a mysterious portal drops debris continuously and technology is derived from the junk that collects there, three distinct societies evolve: the Forgers, the Users, and the Scrappers. Each group maintains a balance that is necessary for their survival. Il’eigha, an orphan, lives a bleak existence as a Scrapper until she comes across a boy being attacked by a strange creature. In an attempt to save the boy’s life, she is overcome and awakens with the creature attached to her back. Unable to break free, she sets out to find answers.
